Cape Town gives families an unusual mix of wildlife, beaches, mountains, city attractions and food. The mistake is trying to do all of it every day. A week works better when the Peninsula and city days are separated by genuine downtime.

A realistic week

Day 1 · Arrive + Sunset Beach

Unpack, walk the beach, swim and keep dinner local. The point is to arrive rather than immediately start sightseeing.

Day 2 · Table Mountain + city

Use a clear-weather morning for Table Mountain. Add one city stop afterward and resist turning the day into a checklist.

Day 3 · V&A Waterfront + Aquarium

Make the Two Oceans Aquarium the family anchor, then use the Waterfront for lunch, wandering, shopping or a harbor activity.

Day 4 · Penguins + Cape Point

Make this the big road-trip day: False Bay, Boulders Beach and Cape Point. Leave early and preserve time for unplanned coastal stops.

Day 5 · Beach + Blouberg

Sleep in, use the villa pool, walk Sunset Beach and head up the Blouberg coast for lunch or sunset. A light day resets everyone.

Day 6 · Winelands

Choose a family-friendly estate or activity around Stellenbosch rather than building the entire day around adult tastings.

Day 7 · Weather/favorite day

Keep the final day flexible for Kirstenbosch, a missed attraction, shopping, another beach afternoon or simply staying home.

Weather rule: do not lock Table Mountain to one particular day. When the mountain is clear and the cableway is operating, use the weather window. Buy official Cableway tickets online; busy days can still involve queues.
